Steeped in history, the extremely diverse crags found at Smith Rocks were formed from volcanic ash and comprise distinctive basalt rocks and columns. The area is known as the birthplace of North American sport climbing. Monkey Face, an unmistakable spire of rock resembling a monkey’s head, is the iconic symbol of the Smith Rock State Park.
