The formation of the Alps resulted in a wide variety of rock strata developing in the Valle Isarco and Alta Valle Isarco valleys. This geological phenomenon means that climbers in the region can choose between walls of granite and gneiss as well as dolomite, porphyry and quartz phyllite. The routes developed on the numerous climbing gardens are equally diverse.
