With their tufa columns and stalactites, Cuba’s unique and, in some cases, huge karst caves are a true paradise for climbers. The climbing gardens were exceptionally difficult to develop, since climbing was forbidden and the necessary equipment was virtually impossible to obtain. American climbers brought climbing gear and shoes so they could explore the area’s rocks with the locals.
